Unlocking Potential: NDIS to Open Employment, Empowering Participants and Employers
The Disability Trust (TDT) has created inclusive workplaces that accommodate individuals with disabilities. Educating employers on the importance of hiring people with disabilities. TDT has provided employers with training, support and resources needed to support to become disability confident, recruitment of employees, along with job customisation to where everyone feels valued and empowered to succeed.
Educating employers on inclusiveness helps to break down barriers and minimise misconceptions about employing individuals with disabilities. Many employers were unaware of the benefits of hiring people with disabilities. Highlighting the advantages, employers were encouraged to seek out opportunities to hire individuals with disabilities.
TDT has provided training to employers on how to create inclusive workplaces. This includes offering support in adjusting, open communication, promoting a workplace culture of respect and acceptance. Investing time with employers to equip them with the tools they need to support employees with disabilities, they can ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive in the workplace.
TDT has been successful in transitioning PWD from NDIS-funded employment supports to open employment. Through personalised assistance, enhancing their confidence, improving their skills, and growing valuable work experience within a supportive setting. Collaborating closely with people with disabilities to define their objectives, TDT ensures the provision of customised support systems aimed at enabling their success in open employment opportunities.
Educating employers on the importance of inclusivity and providing support to individuals with disabilities in transitioning to open employment are crucial steps towards creating a more diverse and equitable workforce.
